In the world of digital documentation for buildings, labeling an as-built model as a BIM doesn't necessarily make it one. In this post, we explore the specific requirements that must be met for an as-built model to be considered a true BIM.
In March 2021 I had the pleasure to be a panelist on the Scan-to-BIM University Webinar. Some of the questions we received after the live session were related to best practices for improving registrations of building exteriors. Since such a topic would have helped me when I started adopting 3D Laser Scanning in 2010, I want to share what I have learned over the last 11 years of scanning. My hope is that you would benefit from my experience and together we can improve the building documentation practice.
Since Leica launched the RTC360 scanner in 2018, it has been a lot of excitement around this unit, and rightfully so. It is faster than anything in its class, it is lightweight, and it comes with the VIS technology that helps pre-register the scans in the field.
It sounded like a dream machine, so the RCMonkeys team decided to put it to the test.
